The Super Hero Pill to Alleviate Stress Urinary Incontinence
rn

How does the Study Work?
rn
A team of Beaumont Hospital Urologists in Royal Oak, Michigan are rounding up a study group of postmenopausal women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). This lucky group of women will be the first study group to test the one-a-day pill that may reduce involuntary urine leakage. The one-a-day pill, enobosarm, is the investigational medication these postmenopausal women with SUI will be taking, once a day. Science Daily reports that the doctors at Beaumont Hospital will be, “evaluating the effects of orally administered enobosarm, 3mg once a day, in postmenopausal women with SUI. Dr. Peters and his team plan to enroll up to 35 women to test the safety and effectiveness of enobosarm. Participants will take the study medication for 90 days.”
rn
The Urologists at Beaumont Hospital are the first doctors in the United States to study the alleviating affects of enobosarm on SUI symptoms. Kenneth M. Peters, M.D., Chief of Urology at Beaumont Hospital and the principal investigator in the clinical trial said in an interview with Berkshire Hathaway, “I would welcome a safe and effective treatment option, especially since existing non-surgical options are extremely limited and, at times, only marginally effective.” Pelvic floor muscles are essential to controlling urinary incontinence and fecal incontinence, so enobosarm could truly be a miracle to incontinence sufferers.

Why Do the Study?
rn
The amount of those who suffer from incontinence are far greater than you may think. According to Science Daily, the amount of incontinence suffers ranges, “about 13 million Americans…urinary incontinence affects up to 35 percent of adult women.” Women experience urinary incontinence far more than men for a number of reasons. Young women, middle aged women and elderly women are all subject to urinary incontinence. Pop stars and celebrities have come out about their urine leakage issues to fight the taboo of incontinence. It’s far too common for people to find incontinence strange and embarrassing. Incontinence sufferers have to change their completely change their lifestyles to remain comfortable. From maintaining leakage at work, on long flights and commutes, in social situations, and even their sex lives – incontinence affects people on almost every level.
rn
Discreet adult diapers, absorbent underpads, absorbent adult briefs and liners/guards help reduce leakage and make incontinence sufferers more comfortable. Those with stress urinary incontinence, like pregnant women, post-pregnant women, menopausal women and postmenopausal women, tend to have lighter leakage and find comfort in absorbent liners. But those with more serious cases of incontinence, like obsetetric fistula, need absorbent adult underwear that absorbs heavy incontinence. These types of adult diapers are harder to conceal (How to Stay Fashionable with Incontinence) and can severely affect someones lifestyle.

What to take from the Study
rn

If the research proves fruitful, hopefully research will continue to see if it could help to alleviate other forms of incontinence. On January 13th of 2016, ” (Beaumont Urologist Researchers) today announced the initiation of its Phase 2 clinical trial to treat postmenopausal women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI).” Hope is out there.
