Most everyone will advise you to remove alcohol from your diet. This is a very good suggestion as alcohol slows your metabolism so you do not lose weight as fast. Alcohol is also high in sugar and carbohydrates, so if you drink too much you can gain weight. But dropping alcohol is not so easy for those who enjoy a little boozy buzz. In fact, if you go cold turkey on the foods and drinks you enjoy, you are more likely to fail on your diet. This is because you end up bingeing on your favorite foods and soon give up on your goal to lose weight. So my easy and fun advice to lose weight and still drink alcohol is to re-create your favorite cocktails.

Most cocktails with the heaviest sugar content are those with juices in them. Most bars use flavored syrup with mixed drinks instead of actual fresh juice. For example, margaritas are generally made with Sweet and Sour mix. This is incredibly high calorie and high in sugar. You will not lose weight with the basic recipe of a margarita. So instead of drinking them with Sweet and Sour, make your own margarita mix. It’s easy, just squeeze some lemons and limes out, add some 0 calorie sweetener like Truvia, use a dash of orange for a little flavor, then add white tequila and triple sec and you’re good to go! This method applies to all cocktails. As long as you use fresh ingredients you will cut calories down by at least half. Some people like to add a little club soda for a kick, or jalapenos. Get creative with it!

And thankfully mixology is becoming more popular these days. Classy mixologists always use the freshest ingredients, so your cocktail will always be “skinny”. If you go to a dive bar though, ask for the skinny version, they should know what you’re talking about.

If you haven’t gotten into the Pinterest game yet, you are seriously missing out. Like seriously, where have you been? Under a rock? Just kidding. Not really though…Exploring Pinterest is essentially discovering new things about your hobbies and interests. If you like traveling, you can find a thousand ways to go to your dream destination on a budget, or in the fanciest most expensive way possible! If you want to redecorate your house, you can find a way to buy or make your desired objects on the cheap (anything from chairs to carpets to a mailbox to garden decor!).

The reason I bring up Pinterest is because it’s a great way to distract yourself. If you are bored and feel like snacking, use your soda stream and hop on Pinterest. Find cool things you can buy or create. Or even just explore the world and get advice from people. You don’t have to filter through google to find your favorite things because Pinterest literally brings your specific interests to you through the click of a button. Pinterest also applies to your favorite foods. If you absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE pizza, don’t give it up to lose weight. Simply go on Pinterest and find an awesome low calorie, healthy pizza recipe. Because so many people all over the world contribute to Pinterest, you can literally find any of your favorite dishes made in a deliciously healthy recipe. This applies to cocktails, beer and wine as well!

Who doesn’t like window shopping! You get to drool over everything you want and sometimes those items motivate you to work harder so you can get them! A lot of this is materialistic, but we live in a material world, so visually spoil yourself! Window shopping is a fun easy way to lose weight because it gets you moving around. Go walk around the mall or downtown where all the fun shopping spots are.

Window shopping doesn’t just apply to clothing or toys, it can apply to houses or museums as well. Walk around a beautiful neighborhood and check out your favorite houses. Go to a museum and explore awesome pieces of art that you may recreate in your own home. Museums aren’t always boring either, you can go to a Ripley’s Believe it or Not or Wax museum to look at and learn about new weird things. Basically window shopping is an easy and fun way to lose weight because you are walking around more (burning calories, speeding up metabolism, strengthening your body) and looking at interesting things. Lose weight and look at cool stuff. It’s pretty simple.

You may think that watching TV and movies is the worst piece of advice to lose weight. Well hear me out. If you need to turn off your brain at the end of a work day, Netflix may be your favorite vice. Or maybe you are a TV and Film junkie who loves to analyze plot lines or directing skills. In any case, you can lose weight with a Netflix binge! The key is to only watch your absolute favorite shows while you are working out. Never allow yourself to watch it while you are sitting down. This will force you to get up and get going so you can watch your desired Netflix time.

When I say work out while binge watching, I don’t mean you always have to do a hardcore work out. Even just walking around as you watch a show will help you lose weight. Getting the proper amount of steps in a day (over 10,00 steps) is essential to health and weight loss. You can also do sit ups, push ups, or lift some dumb bells. Run in place do squats! DRINK WATER! Do it all. Working out as you binge watch your Netflix show will also increase your TV watching experience. Your blood will be pumping and more endorphins will be released, so you will be far more excited about your show. You may be even so excited that you binge even more than usual, which means you are moving around more! Binge watch Netflix and lose weight.

Download the MyFitnessPal app. Okay so this might not be a “fun” way to lose weight, but it’s certainly an easy way. Like an insanely way. MyFitnessPal lets you record everything you eat, your exercise, water (sodastream!) intake and how many steps you take. It then calculates how many calories you have eaten or earned. You can put in your weight loss goal (how much weight you want to lose in how much time) and it will create an easy, healthy plan for you to follow.

The reason this app is easier than other health tracking apps is because it also has the “bar code” feature. I know when I record my calories, the hardest part is looking up the amount of calories in every item I eat. Sometimes my own calculations are incorrect. But MyFitnessPal can scan the barcode on your food item and immediately calculate your health points. This will also help you choose which foods to eat so you know which one is the healthiest choice.
